The elected nine-member City Council appoint a City Manager to act as the administrative head of the City and its departments.

The City's charter provides for a Council/Manager form of city government. The Council is the policy-making body of the City. They adopt laws and regulations, adopt annual City goals and objectives, and adopt budgets that provide a wide range of public services. They give direction to City staff through the City Manager, who serves at the pleasure of the City Council. The Mayor presides over the Council meetings. The Mayor only votes in the case of a tie vote by the City Councilors.

The Mayor serves a two year term and City Councilors serve four-year terms of office. The Mayor and City Councilors all serve the citizens of our community in a volunteer capacity and the Councilors are elected at large, not by districts or neighborhoods.
