Planning Commission
Function
The Planning Commission provides input into plans and programs that will have a long term impact on the community. The commission may make and alter rules and regulations for its government and procedure and has all the powers that are granted to it by ordinances of the city or by laws of the state. 

The commission shall control the subdivision of land and may make recommendations to the council, to public officials, and to individuals regarding land use, location of thoroughfares, public buildings, parks and other public facilities and regarding any other matter relating to the planning and development of the city and the surrounding area.  The commission may make studies, hold hearings, and prepare reports and recommendation on its own initiative or at the request of the council.

The Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 7:00 p.m. If the regular meeting falls on a holiday, they meet the next day.  Workshops and special meetings may also be held.  All meetings shall be held only when there is business to transact.


Members

The Planning Commission is a seven member Council-appointed committee.  Members must reside in the City of Dallas and are appointed for four-year terms.
