Internet Use Policy
Dallas Public Library Policy

1. A person must be registered as having a valid, current unblocked CCRLS library card to use an Internet Workstation at the Dallas Public Library. A workstation may be reserved by the patron at the Internet Reservation Station.

2. People who are visiting Dallas, who are not registered in the database, may ask at the Circulation Desk for a Guest Library Card by presenting their valid I.D.

3. A patron may register to use an Internet Workstation for one forty-five minute session per day. Additional time may be available in increments of 10 minutes, depending on subsequent reservations. Times may be reserved up to twenty-four hours in advance. If patron is over 10 minutes late for their scheduled time, that computer will be made available for other users. A special Internet Express terminal will be available for short sessions of fifteen minutes.

4. Due to space limitations, no more than two people can be at one computer station.

5. Patrons will be responsible for pages printed at a rate of $.10 per page.

6. Patrons may not participate in the chat lines when using the Library's Internet Workstation.

7. Patrons may not use their own software programs on library computers.

8. Unacceptable behavior that may result in the loss of Internet privileges:

  •  Use of Internet access for purposes which violate U.S., state, or local laws, to transmit or receive threatening, obscene, or harassing materials, or to interfere with or disrupt network users, services or equipment. Disruptions include distribution of unsolicited advertising, propagation of computer worms and viruses, and using the network to make unauthorized entry to any other machine accessible via the network.
  • Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted or licensed software or data.
  • Use of the Workstation in a manner that threatens or causes damage to the computer.

9. You are financially responsible for any damage resulting from misuse or abuse of an internet Workstation, including changes made to the setup or configuration of the software or hardware.

10. Given the current staffing levels of the Library, in-depth training concerning the Internet is currently not available, although some limited assistance is available for searching suggestions and answering questions. Given the library schedule, Internet-trained staff may not always be available. Please check with the circulation desk to find out when volunteer trainers are scheduled to be at the library.

11. The Dallas Public Library reserves the right to modify this policy at any time.
