Organization
The Friends of the Dallas Public Library organized and developed By-Laws in 1982. In 1988, the Friends of the Dallas Public Library proved instrumental in the campaign to relocate the Library from a structure of 4000 square feet to the current building on Main Street with an increase of square footage to 8440. The Friends of the Dallas Public Library filed for incorporation and
501(c)(3) status in 1996.

Purpose of the Friends

The Friends of the Dallas Public Library is a group of citizens who perceive the Library as essential to the cultural and intellectual well-being of the city and who, therefore, consider the preservation and advancement of its use to be important to the community.

The purpose of the Friends of the Dallas Public Library is to:

  • Stimulate increased financial support, public and private, for the Dallas Public Library
  • Sponsor and stimulate volunteer service for the Dallas Public Library
  • Promote the greatest possible use of the Dallas Public Library by the Dallas community
  • Sponsor special programs and events at the Dallas Public Library
  • Act as ambassadors to the community promoting services available at the Dallas Public Library
